No new posts Search Engine Optimization

Website Optimization is a complex issue, but should be known by every entrepreneur who wants to succeed on the Internet.

According to the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy, optimize is finding the best way to perform an activity. Therefore, optimization of your website would make it comply with the best possible with each of its functions.

Recall that if a site is designed only to achieve success in the Search Engines, better known as search engines will not be successful with users as the machines do not buy, not sell it. If, however, is intended only for individuals, difficult to achieve a good positioning in search engines and users will not find, therefore, not sell. In conclusion, a successful web site must comply with both their functions inevitably related to Search Engines such as those associated with the usability by site visitors.

We have said that anyone wishing to succeed in the Internet market should make a website that is a true "virtual branch." That is, this should be an extension of your company and operate as a local online. For this, the site must achieve the objectives for which it was created, must be compatible with the principles and policies of the Company, be functional and actually transmit useful information to its users.

In order to reach a site that complies with the characteristics listed above, you must have the help of a Web Optimizer you know how that site should work and how to achieve it.

No new posts Why Is My Website Not Showing Up in Search Engines?

This is one the most common questions website owners ask us. The answer however, isn't so simple as there are dozens of potential reasons why a website isn't appearing in search engine results. We'll take a look at some of the most common reasons below, but this is not the end-all be-all list. It's also important to realize you may have several of the problems listed below, or a combination of these issues with other technical problems.

If you are not familiar with website development, it is important to have a professional backend expert look at the structure of your website or use an online program to scan your website to pinpoint any problems.

1. Content (or Lack Thereof) - Search engines scan websites for content. If your website does not have enough content, or does not contain content that features the keywords you are entering into the search engine, your website will not show up for them.

2. Too Much Flash - If your home page is one giant flash splash screen, it means that there is no content as search engines cannot read the text in a flash animation. If there is no content to scan, your home page cannot be determined relevant for any words at all, let alone your targeted keywords.

3. You Haven't Been Indexed Yet - If you are launching a new website, you need to submit your website to the search engines in order for them to find and index you. The time between submitting your site and actually getting it indexed could take a few weeks or a several months. If your website has been around for over a year and you have submitted your website to the search engines for indexing, this may mean that your website is experiencing other issues.

4. Black Hat Penalties - If you (either consciously or not) engaged in certain practices that are considered unethical by search engines, including keyword stuffing (creating content filled with keywords but no actual content), link farms (series of websites that all link to each other), and other trickery to fool search engines into giving you higher rankings, the search engines will discover this when they scan your website and penalize you. They won't send you a letter, they'll just send your website to page 10,000 for your keywords. The only way to redeem yourself is to remove the offensive techniques from your website and re-submit it to the search engine for indexing.

5. Duplicate Content - If you publish web content that already appears elsewhere online, the search engines will penalize you and you will not rank for those keywords. Your web content must be 100% original and optimized with your SEO keywords in mind in order for your website to achieve high search engine rankings for those specific terms.

6. No One is Linking to You (or you have broken links) - Link building is a very important for the success of your website. Search engines take into account who is linking to your website as well as who you are linking to. If no other quality, relevant websites are linking to yours, that will work against you with search engines. Likewise, if your website is filled with broken links, that may also cause your website to rank poorly in search engines.

7. Lack of Promotion and Lack of Patience - You need to actively promote your website in order to increase your inbound links, trust factor, and search engine rankings. This means constantly publishing new, relevant content, creating content outside of your website, leaving comments on blogs with your URL, and most of all being PATIENT. Great search engine rankings do not happen overnight. It is a process that requires a lot of time and effort. If you put the work in, it will pay off, but it may take up to a year for your site to start receiving a lot of traffic and you need to be prepared for that.

No new posts What domain name should I choose?

This depends on how you are going to use it. If you are going to be telling people over the phone, choose one that is easy to say and spell out loud. Above all, I would choose one that is memorable and not confusing.

No new posts What are my options for e-commerce or online donations?

You can take payments online in a number of ways. The first is PayPal - this an inexpensive way to start taking payments quickly, especially if you don't have a merchant account. With PayPal, your visitors can pay you with a credit card or by sending a payment from their checking account (echeck). PayPal provides a shopping cart and many other free services that are helpful to sites that are starting out. They charge 2.9% +$.30 per transaction and have no start-up fees. The downsides are that PayPal is not a very customizable solution, and it can have a “start-up” feel. However, this is changing and many mainstream sites are now accepting PayPal as more and more people have PayPal accounts. PayPal is inexpensive both because there are no merchant account of payment gateway fees, but also because PayPal provides a very easy way to integrate their shopping cart into your site, which reduces development time.

No new posts What is the difference between a static and a dynamic site?

A static site is one that is written in HTML only. Each page is a separate document and there is no database that it draws on. What this means functionally is that the only way to edit the site is to go into each page and edit the HTML - so you'd either have to do it yourself using a webpage editor like FrontPage or pay me to go in and edit the site each time you wanted something changed.

A dynamic site is written using more complex code and can do a lot more. For instance, I can make an area where you can log in and change various parts of the site, such as adding information or products. This is because each page is constructed based on the information in a database, and the information in that database can be changed via another interface.

Dynamic sites can reduce ongoing maintenance costs if you don't want to change things yourself with a webpage editor or with the HTML. They usually cost more to develop, as they require more complex coding and a content management utility needs to be developed to help you manage your website information.

Another benefit of dynamic sites is that they allow you to change only the content of the site and not the design, so you will not be able to accidentally break the visual style of the site. They have other benefits when sites start to get very large, as they make data management much more efficient and your site more expandable.

Many clients do a combination, having some dynamic areas such as a product catalog where they have to change information or pictures regularly, and leave other pages such as contact information as static pages.

No new posts Do I really need a web site?

A few years ago the answer could have gone either way. Currently, any business without a web site is actually missing out on a great way to effectively advertise your business and save money at the same time. Web sites can serve as additional staff during the business day. By adding your web site address to your "hold message" potential customers can visit your site for the information they need and spend less time on hold.

No new posts I want a website but am not sure where to begin, what do I do?

First of all, don't rush to give anyone your money. This includes buying domain names, hosting, or anything else. Be sure to do some research and consult with someone you trust or talk with a few different professionals.

Understand that the more time and effort you spend planning your site, the more likely you are to have excellent results. It is important to know who your primary audience will be, understand what they want, how they will find you, and convey relevant information effectively. Also, think about how you would like the web site to look. We always suggest taking a look at your competitors and other web sites which have characteristics you appreciate in order to incorporate them into your unique style. Drafting an outline on paper is always a good idea. The most effective websites are developed with clients that are intimately involved with their project. Nobody knows your business better than you.

No new posts I already have a web site but need some help. How can you help me?

First of all, we are easy to reach and always responsive to emails and phone messages. There are no automated telephone service or customer service representatives. If you want to change something, we can quickly and easily log on to your current host (with your permission) or download your entire site. Minor changes are easy; an entire makeover is slightly more involved.

No new posts How do I get more people to find and visit my web site?

Firstly and most importantly, know your audience and consider their needs. Determine which other web sites they may already be visiting. Contact those web administrators and set up a reciprocal link exchange. This is mutually beneficial, inexpensive and easy.

Also, make sure your pages have appropriate keywords which accurately describe the content. Search engines have "spiders", programs which regularly search the web for sites to add to their database. Sites are then categorized by a set of alphanumeric equations or logarithms. These equations are changed regularly in order to be more accurate and keep individuals from abusing the system. The process of fine tuning your web pages so they are shown during a search is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short. SEO is the most productive and cost-effective method for getting customers to your web site.

No new posts Once my site is up and running, is any additional maintenance required?

Required? NO. Preferred? YES. As long as you maintain web hosting services, nothing need be done until the domain registration has to be renewed. What you will likely want to happen will be minor modifications, add/delete pages, upgrade services, Search Engine Optimization, etc. Also, you will probably want to know the statistics of your site, such as how many people are visiting, how much time they spend at your site and sources from which they link. Additionally, as the web grows and new sites are added, the dynamics of search engines change significantly. At first, it is likely that your site be listed near the top of a particular category or keyword search. In time, it may be beneficial to change your site's keywords or relocate your site within the search engine structure to get better results.
